A project with a long standing client relationship

We’d been working with Lister Hospital for seven years before they awarded us the PFI contract for the new multi-storey car park (and an additional contract to manage two others). However, we had to move quickly as long queues of cars were common at the hospital and the extra 285 spaces would ease congestion.

Making fast work to help traffic flow

After being appointed the preferred bidder on the 27th May 2010, we gained planning permission on 17th September. We started work just three days later, and proudly opened the new car park on the 1st September 2011.

Practical Design

The 11 split-level car park cost £6.5m and is tailored to the hospitals needs. From the covered entrance between the car park and hospital to the 76 bicycle and 14 motorcycle bays-it’s a practical and efficient style of hospital car parking management. The new car park boosts the total number of parking spaces at Lister Hospital to 1,650 an increase of 34% and will ensure a smoother parking experience for staff, patients and visitors alike. The number of blue badge spaces across the hospital site has nearly tripled, and the new MSCP provides wheel chair access and help points.

Thinking Green

The project’s environmental elements really set it apart from standard hospital car parks. The multi-storey car park sources 10% of its energy from renewable sources and boasts the latest in green credentials including; a living green wall, recharging points for electric vehicles, a secure area for parking bicycles and a fully landscaped plaza incorporating a sculpture made from an oak tree and designed by a local artist. The car park also features a silent wind turbine and photo voltaic solar panels which together generate renewable electricity for the car park, a first for Indigo.
